Any marine-related institution is entitled to join the Association.
There are two categories of membership of the Association: Administrative Board membership and scientific membership.
Administrative Board members are selected on the principle of ˇ°One country, one administrative board memberˇ±. The scientific members may come from any marine-related institution in any country.
Membership of the Association shall be granted or withdrawn by the Administrative Board on the basis of a simple majority of its vote.
Every member shall appoint a correspondent and one alternate to be responsible for relations with the Association. All communications may be validly addressed to this correspondent.
Members may resign from the Association after giving six months' notice of intention in written form to do so.
