The department of mathematics was founded in 1979 and was authorized by the national ministry of education in the same year. We began to recruit graduate of applied mathematics in 1983 and graduate of Computational mathematics in 1998. Our undergraduate course now includes mathematics & applied mathematics and information & Computational mathematics; our graduate course includes applied mathematics and Computational mathematics. In 1996, our applied mathematics field was authorized to be the emphatic subject in the province.
Our department now has 40 staves; among them there are 9 professors, 8 associate professors, one doctor instructor, five doctors, 4 doctor degree pursuers, 19 master pursuers and 306 full time undergraduates. We also could recruit doctors of data processing in Physical Oceanography.
Our department possesses plenty of Chinese and foreign magazines in a sizeable library. There are also information possessing lab, mathematics modeling lab and computer lab in our department, which supply a perfect environment for teachers and students¨ teaching and research.
In the past few years, teachers in our department have presided or taken on 19 national natural fund projects, 4 provincial natural fund projects and one national emphatic lab project. In the past five years, teachers in our department have issued more than 160 papers, published 10 monographs and earn Scientific Progressive Award many times. Teachers in our department also coach students for mathematics modeling and earn national and provincial first class award in the national mathematics modeling competition many times.
