Marine Drug and Food Institute was approved by Shandong Provincial as a key laboratory at provincial level and is China's only National Research Center for Marine Pharmaceutical Engineering Technology. Close cooperative relationships have been established with University of Georgia of the U.S.A., University of Rotterdam of the Netherlands. Tokyo University of Japan, as well as exchange programs with some relevant institutions and universities of Germany and France.

Molecular Biology of Marine-derived Medicinal Organisms, Marine Natural Product Chemistry, Marine Glyco-chemistry and Glyco-biology, Development and Research of Marine Carbohydrate-based Drugs and Biological Engineering products.
