The Conventional Resources of the Library

Up to now, the OUC Library houses a total volume of one million books and is categorized as t he 2 nd grade book collection. The commonly used books and journals of various specialties are collected by the university library and those periodicals and reference books on some specific areas are collected by the reference rooms of relevant college s or department s .

The library has t he collections as follow s :

•  640,000 books in Chinese ( Korean books included ), 160,000 books in English, Japanese and Russian;

•  200,000 bound volumes of back issues, among which 60,000 are in Chinese, 90,000 in English, Japanese and Russian;

•  Some 1,500 newspapers and periodicals in Chinese and 443 in other languages have been subscribed;

•  Over 4,000 items of audiovisual.

DIGITAL LIABRARY RESOURCES

Over two million yuan is invested each year for the discipline reinforcement at OUC by means of introducing electronic resources, which highlights the OUC feature while giving full play to the development of comprehensive disciplines, with both academic and other resources involved. At present, the OUC Digital Library commands the following resources.

•  Nearly 50 electr onic resource databases in Chinese and foreign languages

•  More than 100,000 kinds of Chinese electr onic books

•  More than 10,000 kinds of periodicals with full text in Chinese and foreign languages respectively

•  Up to 200,000 full length theses of Doctor and Master degree from domestic universities

•  More than 3,000,000 pieces of information on Doctor and Master degree theses of overseas universities, including more than 80,000 original doctoral theses from North America

THE CONSTRUCTION OF ELECTRONIC RESOURSES

The main electronic resources include electronic books, databases of Chinese and foreign language periodicals, databases of Doctor and Master degree theses, video on demand and network navigation.

Electronic Books

More than 100,000 electronic books have been purchased and available on the Campus Network to supplement the inadequate paper books. Readers could search for and read the books they need by installing the browser of China Digital Library with more than 100,000 books of various kinds , and Founder Electronic Book System with nearly 20,000 electronic books, most of which are reference books on learning and teaching .

Chinese Databases

In stock are VIP Chinese Science & Technology Periodical Databases (Full Text), China Periodical Full Text Databases, Wanfang Data , copy materials of the National People's Congress and the Collected Edition of China's Law and R egulations full text databases ¡ª a fairly complete collection of academic periodicals published openly in China .

Foreign Databases

Full text databases involve the Elsevier SDOS, Association for Computing Machinery, American Chemical Society, American Society of Plant Biologists, ASP (including academic periodicals full text) and BSP (business source full text), ARL Academic Research Library and Kluwer Online.

Both general and professional, these databases are of high quality electronic sources receiving international recognition , with more than 10,000 full text periodicals covering all but disciplines at OUC .

Databases on abstracts command BIOSIS Preview, Chemical Abstracts, Cambridge Science Abstracts, Engineering Index, Food Science and Technology Abstracts.

Other services offered by the Library

Inter-library Loan

Index for Tracing Original Texts ¡ª a service for resource sharing by turning to other institutions in agreement ¡ª is offered to those who demand information source unavailable at OUC . The details of these services can be obtained in the column of inter-library loan at the homepage of the Library.

Inquiry of new t echnology

The I nquiry Center for State-of-the-Art at OUC L ibrary is among the first twenty nine work stations for inquiry at the level of Education Ministry , undertaking the state-of-the-art searching before the scientific research programs are certified as well as inquiring the latest scientific fruits and patents. Books Donated from abroad

Qingdao International Education Exchange Service in our Library is one of the three national transferring centers founded by the Ministry of E ducation for re ceiving and transferring books donated to China from overseas NGOs . The past years saw an important role it has played in the construction of foreign language document resources in the libraries of colleges and universities across the country.
