Teaching
Ocean University of Qingdao strictly carries out the
Party's educational priciples. strengthens teaching
reform to improve the quality of teaching to meet the
need of economic and social development.In the work of
teaching construction,emphasis is laid on the teaching
of basic courses while efforts are made to strengthen the construc-
tion of specialities,courses,textbooks.laboratories,teaching practi-
-ce bases,talent training bases for basic studies and teaching. It
also carries out evaluation of courses and specialities. In the past
few years.the achievements in such courses as college English and c-
-omputer application and in the practice of course evaluation have
won National Awards for Excellent Teaching Results.In teaching refo-
-rm ,the mechanism of competition has been introduced,and both the
credit system and the set-quota elimination system have been adopted
Besides,more optional courses have been added to the curriculum and
the dual-major and dual bachelor's degree system are instated. The
university strengthens the construction of the style of study and
maintains strict teaching administration to improve the quality of
teaching.

Scientific Research
The scientific research of Ocean University of Qingdao has deve-
-loped very fast and vigorously.All the teachers and the 192 speci-
-alists and technicians in 21 research institutes( offices ),giving
full play to the advantages and features of marine and fishery sub-
-jects.have achieved great results in basic theoretical studies. in
high-tech research,in the use of foreign technology and in the boo-
-sting of economy with science and technology.

Major Achievements during the 7th Five-Year Plan Period
Since the 7th Five-Year Plan Period.the university's research f-
-und has increased a lot,and the average amount of fund for each s-
-cientist was higher on the list of all higher learning institution
in China.Thirty-five of the results reached the international lead-
-ing or advanced standards and 74 were original or advanced in Chi-
-na .Scientists and teachers of the University have got 57 monogra-
-phs and 1886 academic papers published.The university has won alt-
-ogether 81 awards for its scientific research.10 of which are wor-
-ld gold metals,14 are prizes at the national level,and 57 are pri-
-zes at the ministry or provincial level.
Basic Theoretical Studies
All the disciplines of the university attach great importance to
basic theoretical studies,and the basic study in physical oceanogr-
-aphy is most advanced in the world.Scientists in this field of st-
-udy have completed several national or provincial key projects in
science and technology as well as some national natural science fu-
-nd projects.They have made great contribution to marine environme-
-nt and disaster prediction,marine environment protection,off-shore
petroleum exploitation,ocean-going meteorological navigation,harbo-
-ur construction and shallow-sea resource exploitation.

High-tech Research
The university's high-tech research has its own features. Good
results have been achieved in the development of marine drug ser-
-ies,marine satellite remote sensing technology,under-water robot
visual system.marine bio-material development,laser radar and ma-
-rine antirot technology.The development of marine drugs has bla-
-zed a new trail in the exploitation of marine resources.Besides,
both the marine bio-technology and aquaculture technology have m-
ade important contribution to our country's development of fishe-
-ry production and to the culture of new species.

International Cooperation in Marine Investigation
Scientists and research workers of the university have partic-
-ipated in several international marine investigation projects,s-
-uch as WOCE,TOGA,JGOFS and LOLCZ.Exploit the Sea with Science a-
-nd Technology to boost the Prosperity of Shandong.
Both the exploitation of the sea to boost the prosperity of S-
-handong and the development of the Yellow River Delta are key p-
-rojects of the university's research work,and some important re-
-sults have been achieved.
